Harleston and Wortwell Junior Angling Club

Harleston Angling Club Junior Results For July 18th 2002

Harleston Junior Angling Clubs excellent attendance record continued with eighteen keen junior anglers turning up for this fifth and penultimate round of the summer league, held in Weybread Club Pit. Winner Jack Weatherley holds his biggest ever Carp, a ten pound fifteen ounce monster.A bright sun and North West wind killed of any hopes of the big weights seen in the previous rounds, but the average catch was still a very respectical 5lb with only two anglers failing to catch. The lower weights produced a much closer competition with four anglers fighting for top spot right up to the final whistle.

At the final weigh in it was Jack Weatherley, who after an epic battle lasting just under an hour with a massive 10lb 15oz Carp recorded his first match win, and finally ended Daniel Elliott's winning run. Jack drew end peg 16 with the wind blowing into his corner, and started well catching plenty of small fish in the margins using a short pole with maggot hook baits and pellet feed before the carp moved into his peg. Eleven-year-old Jack then lost two good fish before hooking his monster which is his biggest ever fish, the carp tested his four pound line to the limit for nearly an hour before he safely netted it in the final minutes of the match to catapult him to top spot, added to his small fish his final weight of 16lb 9oz was nearly six pounds clear of Daniel Elliott.

Harley Moss with the seasons biggest bream, a two pound four ounce specimen. The three way battle for second was won by the League winner Daniel Elliott who finished with 10lb 13oz, catching two big carp on the floating pole, feeding heavily with "Wills Pellets" and using soft pellets on the hook from fancied peg 13 on the carp park bank. Just seven ounces behind in third place was Harley Moss a new starter this season, Harley landed a big Carp and the biggest bream of the season at two pounds four ounces from peg 28, fishing a simple waggler set up and feeding hemp seed with maggots on the hook to pip Karl Shiplee by just over one pound.

Karl Shiplee fished long pole and pellet to the island on peg seven to catch 9lb 1oz of small Carp, this good performance pushes him up to third place in the league with one competition left to fish.
