Harleston and Wortwell Junior Angling Club

Harleston Angling Club Junior Results For July 4th 2002

Harleston Junior Angling Clubs weekly fishing competition attracted another high turnout with nineteen keen youngsters lining the banks of Harleston Club Pit.Winner Daniel Elliott in action netting a good carp. After last weeks record breaking weights expectations were high, but with the changeable weather during the week and the wind in the East the fishing was much harder leaving three of last weeks top four with dry nets when the floater method failed to produce. Despite the East wind those who changed tactics to suit the conditions recorded some excellent catches, with a total of 167lb of fish weighed and an average of over eight pound per angler still being a very respectable result.

Daniel Elliott (above right) was the only angler from last weeks top four to change tactics and finished run away winner with another big weight of carp weighing 41lb 6oz from peg 28. Daniel caught well from the start on floating pole and expander pellet feeding heavily with "Will's Pellets" to take four carp. A change to pellet fished on the bottom under a small float towards the end of the competition saw him add another six fish up to eight pounds in quick succession to complete his ten fish catch and his third straight win of the series.

A peg-to-peg battle between Ricky Leggett from Diss,Second Placed Ricky Leggett.fishing his first competition with the club on peg 3, and thirteen year old Charlie Hodd on peg 2 settled the runners up position. Ricky treated us with an excellent display of long pole angling skills, fishing at 12.5 metres towards the island to catch small carp and crucians steadily on sweet corn, presented over a bed of "Will's Pellets". Ricky landed one bonus mirror carp weighing four and a half pounds and lost another big fish, which cost him a higher place. His final weight of 22lb 3oz was only 1lb short of stealing the second prize from Charlie Hodd.

Charlie Hodd fished an excellent match catching small crucians, carp and bream up in the water with the best display of waggler skills seen at the club for many years by a junior angler. Charlie fed soft expander pellets little and often out to the island and used pellet, caster and corn hook baits to keep the fish coming to the net for the full duration of the three hour competition, one big mirror caught late on pushed his weight up to 23lb 7oz and his best ever finish position.
