Harleston Angling Club Junior Results For June 20th 2002

The eighteen keen youngsters, who turned up for the first round of Harleston Angling Club's junior summer series at Weybread Club Pit, were rewarded with some excellent fishing. The slightly overcast skies and warm breeze pushing on to the Northern bank of the Club Pit at Weybread was nearly perfect fishing weather, and it showed in the catches with a total of 133lb 14oz of fish caught in the three hours. Only one angler failed to trouble the scales and the catch average was over 7lb per person.

Daniel Elliott continued where he left of last season narrowly beating Kieron Loane into second place with a last minute carp sealing the win. Daniel who was last years club champion drew the noted hotspot peg seven on the end of the bar, and made no mistakes netting seven good carp. He started well on the long pole fishing and feeding pellets tight to the island and taking two good carp early on, a change of tactics to surface fished dog biscuits then fooled three more, before changing back to the pole for the last half an hour to finish with two more fish to lift him 6lb clear of Kieron at the final whistle with 26lb 5oz.

Kieron drew corner peg eight and caught small carp and crucians steadily for the full three-hour competition on float fished caster and ground bait feed for a weight of 20lb 9oz.

In third spot was Harleston regular Paul Bliss with 16lb 10oz, another nice bag of crucians and small carp from the opposite corner peg 32. Paul used sweet corn hookbait float fished in the margins tight against the reeds.
