Harleston Junior top rod Daniel Elliott added the Junior Ashford Cup to his impressive CV of match wins thrashing the opposition with a master class in surface fishing and setting a new five-hour junior match record in the process.

Daniel drew peg twenty nine and steamed off into the lead landing four big carp in the first hour on floater tactics, a change to the pole fished on the bottom in the second hour produced only one skimmer but more importantly rested his surface swim building confidence with a steady supply of free offerings. A change back to the rested swim saw Daniel steadily battle seven more big Carp for a massive 62lb 4oz more than doubling his nearest competitor.

With Daniel well out in front it was left to Philip Shulver and Rob King to battle it out for second place with Philip taking the verdict with 28lb 3oz. Philip Started well landing four Carp in the first hour to share the lead with Daniel he then had to wait patiently whilst Rob King slowly chipped away at his lead, just when it seemed time was slipping away for Philip a final tactical change to the floating candle rig saw another Carp added to the net clinching second place.

Third placed Rob King drew peg sixteen and opted to fish the pole with sweetcorn presented hard on the bottom at eight metres and worm in the margins, after a slow start the steady supply of loose feed started to work and a steady stream of Small Bream and F1 Carp graced the waiting net finishing just one fish short with 26lb 12oz.

Jack Weatherley finished fourth with three Carp on surface tactics for 18lb 3oz.
