Harleston Angling Club Junior Ashford Cup Results 2003.
Fourteen-year-old Gavin Woodward (right) topped the field with an impressive catch of 37lb 4oz ten pound clear of his nearest competitor Thomas Sage. Gavin drew fancied peg 26, a form peg and made no mistake catching a big Carp early in the match on the method feeder. A switch to floating dog biscuits drifted under the overhanging tree proved a inspired move with a further five big fish gracing the net in the final two hours. Gavin won a trophy; a new reel and a selection of Geers Groundbaits for his biggest ever match weight. Last weeks match record holder Thomas Sage (right) continued his good form bagging 27lb 8oz from peg 16 on pole and pellet tactics. Thomas took his first fish on long pole before bites dried up, a move to his margin swim found small Common Carp queuing up for his expander pellet hookbaits, a big bonus Mirror Carp weighing nearly ten pounds caught on the last cast proved decisive as he piped Jack Weatherley to second place by just fourteen ounces. Jack Weatherly finished a close third fishing his favourite method feeder tactics tight to the island from peg 11, his catch of 26lb 10oz consisting of small Crucians and Common Carp. New Starter Edward Howman weighed a level 20lb for a well-earned fourth place again fishing the method feeder tight across this time from peg 10. Full result
