Harleston and Wortwell Junior Angling Club 2006.

Autumn Shield 2006.

Winner Jack Weatherley with his catch.

Junior team captain Jack Weatherley continued his domination of Harleston Junior Angling Club's Autumn Shield Open winning for the fourth time in five attempts and completing his hat trick of back to back wins. This annual four-hour competition was fished in the massive Ocean pit at Weybread a tough nut to crack at the best of times, and with a strong head wind causing plenty of presentation problems the match was going to be a battle with the elements as much as the fish.

Second place Rob King with his catch.Jack Weatherley drew peg 9 on the roadside a noted feeder peg, with his feeder rod still standing in the shed he opted to fish the pole at ten metres a compromise between distance and presentation in the strong wind. Jack attacked his swim from the off balling in a kilo of groundbait on the starting whistle Jack presented his maggot hookbait well over depth using a big two gram rig in an effort to keep the bait steady on the bottom. He started slowly with just a few small fish early on but a steady trickle of hemp and casters slowly drew the fish in and an excellent last hour saw him landing quality Roach steadily to push himself past early leader Rob King with a well earned 4lb 6oz catch.

Rob King pushed Jack all the way fishing peg 18 in the reeds balling in groundbait at the start, he then started well forging out an early lead by fishing maggot on the hook just off bottom to land small Roach and Perch with a light rig before bites dried up in the third hour. After a bad third hour a change to a heavier rig in the last half hour saw his luck change as he added a pound and half to the net with three good perch but sadly for him it was not quite enough finishing just short with 3lb 14oz.

Philip Shulver finished third from peg 7, Philip fished the feeder for the first three hours without a bite, a change to the pole and feeding chopped worm and caster saw his luck change with five small perch and a big eel in the last hour finishing with 1lb 15oz.
