Weybread Club Pit

Weybread Club Pit from the air.The Club Pit is a members only lake of about 1.5 acres with three small islands and thirty two permanent pegs, unfortunately due to the steep sided banks there is no disabled access in this lake.

The lake was drained and expanded in 1993 and much of the old silt deposits removed to leave depths ranging from 60cm up to a maximum of 1.8m (pegs 9 to 22).

The pegs are all flat and comfortable man made pegs with every containing plenty of fish holding features with marginal reeds and lilies on most pegs. There is also some overhanging bushes and the three islands to fish against.

Sixty four pounds of hard fighting carp in just four hours shows the catches possible. The Club pit was also heavily stocked after the work with thousands of small carp and skimmers to supplement the resident stocks of roach, crucian carp, gudgeon and perch. These fish have grown well with the skimmers averaging over 1½lb and the carp up to low doubles. This heavy stocking policy with a wide variety of species ensures plenty of bites all year round with bags of well over 100lb possible in the summer months.

Tactics : Pole fishing and loose feeding pellet is a favorite tactic with soft expander pellet or meat on the hook and accounts for some big bags of fish. Method feeder again with pellet or meat on the hook will also take plenty of fish. Floaters and boilies will work well in the warmer months sorting out the bigger carp. For the winter scale down and fish caster for plenty of bites from all species.

Rules : Due to the high stocking levels keepnets are banned from the start of the season until October 1st. After this keepnets may be used but all fish over three pounds must not be retained, there is also a bait limit of one kilo of groundbait and trout pellets and high oil pellets are banned ie Halibut pellets and Salmon pellets, please use all other baits in moderation.
