The Halls Pit at Weybread.

Halls Pit at Weybread from the air. This small reed fringed lake was originally dug 12 years ago as a private trout lake for a local farmer, but he soon abandoned the idea and the water was rented to Harleston Angling club. The lake is now fishable for the price of a day ticket and receives very little angling attention. so a pair of wellies and weed cutter are necessary pieces of equipment to cut out the pegs.

The pegs all have plenty of features and provide a pleasant place to fish..The Club stocked the lake with Carp, Roach, Rudd and a few bream then left it to mature naturally. The clear fertile water and good quality marsh soil have allowed this pit to mature rapidly, with dense reeds beds and water weeds found in every peg. This low stocking coupled with the fresh fertile water meant the fish have grown well with perch and roach to over two pounds caught and carp well over the 20lb mark.

Tactics

Boilie accounts for most of the big Carp with night fishing being the best. The whip and a cloud groundbait will keep you busy all day catching the hoards of small Rudd, these average less than an ounce, for the bigger Rudd and Roach try a waggler approach fished on the drop and loose feeding caster. Anyone wishing to target the big Perch and Pike should try small spinners and livebaits fished near the steep marginal shelf and reed beds.
