Harleston Angling Club Junior Results July 10th 2003.

Daniel Elliott with part of his winning catch.Seventeen young hopefuls fished the fourth round of the Harleston Junior Angling Club's Thursday evening series, this week held in the Carp filled middle pit. With the good weather everyone was hoping the big carp shoals would feed and produce bumper nets all round, in the finish it was only Daniel Elliott and Jason Cooper who got the tactics sorted for the carp, leaving most anglers resorting to roach fishing to gain maximum points.

Defending champion Daniel Elliott (right) came from behind to win his second competition of the season with four Mirror Carp and four big skimmers all caught late in the match on the method feeder from peg seventeen. Daniel used a small hook and single maggot hookbaits to tempt the fish, these light tactics and some bad luck also lost him five other carp. Daniels weight of 28lb 5oz was twelve pounds clear of second placed Jason Cooper.

Jason Cooper weighed three carp for 16lb.Jason Cooper (right) finished second fishing his first competition of the season, he drew noted peg two on the car park and caught three Mirrors, including one perfectly conditioned fully scaled specimen for sixteen pounds eight. All Jason's fish were caught on the surface with dog biscuits fished with a controller float in the first two hours; at this point he was leading Daniel three fish to one before the fish moved and the bites dried up.

In third place well behind the leaders with a more modest four pounds fourteen was Kieron Loane. Kieron had a busy evening fishing a small waggler close to the margin lilies on peg thirty-six to land forty roach and lose two carp with maggot on the hook.

Charlie Hodd scored valuable league points with a bonus skimmer and some good roach on sweetcorn pole fished at eleven meters from peg twenty-five to fill fourth place with three pounds thirteen.

With four competitions now fished only Jack Weatherly can stop Daniel Elliott winning the title for the third year in the row having scored seventy-eight from a maximum of eighty. Ten points behind in second place is Charlie Hodd, with Jack Weatherly filling third with one win, one second and two blow outs needing two wins in the final two competitions to oust Daniel Elliott as league champion. The league is decided on the best four results counting from the six match series, so low points scored in early rounds can be dropped.
