Harleston Junior Angling Club finished the summer series in record-breaking style with Rob King smashing the junior match record with a huge mixed bag of Bream and Carp from the prolific Middle Pit at Weybread dragging the scales round to an arm aching 72lb 13oz in just three hours fishing. Rob secured his second victory of the series and second place in the final league with an excellent display of controlled bagging, never in a hurry just keeping a steady rhythm and landing every thing you hook. Rob drew peg 18 and started the match fishing floaters, after a frustrating first half an hour with plenty of missed takes as the fish have now become more finicky after being caught a few times since the start of the season. With Edward Howman catching well just two pegs away a change was needed so he switched to sweetcorn presented with a simple bulked pole rig to take the bait down quick past the Roach, fishing at just eight metres to the edge of the ripple, first cast he landed a six pound Carp and then never looked back landing Bream up to 2lb 12oz and small Carp just as quick as he could land them right until the end of the match to finish with over thirty quality fish.
Club Champion Edward Howman must have thought he had this match in the bag after starting off at a blistering pace landing four big fish in the first hour for nearly 30lb and take a comfortable lead fishing floaters out in to the ripple from peg 20. As the evening progressed the wind gradually dropped and with it Edward's catch rate landing four more in the remaining two hours to finish with eight fish totalling a whacking 58lb 10oz. It was a case of the ones that got away for Club Captain Jack Weatherley and four times champion Daniel Elliott as they battled for third place. Jack taking the verdict by just three ounces landing three Carp from the surface for 15lb 7oz and losing a further seven this result pushes Jack up to fourth place in the league. Daniel again found the fish very finicky losing seven and landing three for 15lb 4oz securing third place in the series with 73 points.
Eleven-year-old Caden Spooner finished a good season finishing fifth in the league and fifth on the night with a small fish bag weighing 14lb.
