Harleston Angling Club Junior Results July 3rd 2003.Seventeen young anglers managed a total of ninety-eight pound fourteen ounces at the latest Harleston Junior Angling Club competition held Thursday evening Hard work and practice has paid of for twelve-year-old Jack Weatherley with a well deserved win with twenty pounds nine ounces to follow his second place last week. Jack has practiced hard since the beginning of the season, fine tuning his pole fishing techniques on Weybread's plentiful Carp stocks. Jack drew well pulling peg twenty-eight on the road bank from the hat and made no mistake. Straight from the whistle he was into fish bagging up on small Crucians and Carp fishing shallow using the floating pole with hair-rigged meat on the hook. Light feeding with carp pellets kept the fish coming regularly for the first half of the three-hour competition, before the fish moved and the bites dried up.
Thomas Sage finished third his highest position this year with a bag of small carp and one big Mirror Carp weighing eight pound fourteen all caught close in with the pole and pellet combination fished at depth for a level fourteen pound and another eighteen points to keep him in third in the league. Only twelve ounces separated the next three places with Charlie Hodd weighing nine pound four from peg three, Charlie pole fishing meat down the edge. Philip Shulver caught a personal best carp of six pounds seven as part of his eight pound ten ounce total, also his biggest match weight and highest finish, so a good night all round for the twelve year old.
