Harleston Junior anglers again had to battle with the elements as torrential rain fell solidly throughout this fifth and penultimate round of the popular summer series. Heavy rain falling all week and a freak hailstorm midweek completely destroying most of the lily pads with its ferocity and marble size stones, the weather in the run up to the competition had not been kind to the fourteen keen youngsters who arrived to a flooded Club Pit and a night of wet feet if they had forgotten their wellies, still a long dry spell of nearly nine hours during the day had raised their spirits and talk was of a good nights fishing ahead.

Caden Spooner with his second placed catch.A thrilled Abby Thomas was all smiles despite the soaking as she celebrated her sixteenth birthday with a crushing victory, landing 48lb 8oz of hard fighting Carp her biggest catch to date completing a memorable day for the teenager. Abby drew well pulling peg 28 from the bag with plenty of open water in front to settle the fish, low light levels coupled with the rain breaking up the surface favoured the angler making it hard for the fish to see. Abby opted to keep it simple and presented dog biscuits in conjunction with a candle rig to devastating effect landing a succession of big Carp to finish 10lb clear of new club champion Caden Spooner.

Caden Spooner added another second to his already impressive CV this season he again opted to make use of the conditions to land an all Carp catch on the candle rig and pellet hookbaits from peg 12 to finish with 38lb 10oz.

Jake McDowell soon settled in at the club fishing only his second fishing match he landed third spot with a level 30lb from peg 7. Jake started well landing three big commons in his first three casts presenting pellets up tight to the island before the fish moved off into open water, a change to dapping with dog biscuits mid match saw him land another three big fish before the wind dropped and they moved further out again shying away from the pole.

Third placed Jake Mcdowell in action.Travis Woodward finished fourth recording good points to hold onto second place on the league side with 73 points still beating off the strong challenge from Jake Morton ( 67pt) and Oliver Elton (65pt).
