Round one of the Harleston Junior Angling Club's summer series.
Travis drew well pulling one of the pits most productive pegs, peg seven out of the bag but drawing well and catching them are two different things. Travis fishing his first fishing competition kept things simple by just setting up one method feeder rod, this was cast the short distance to the side of the island. Travis then lost a fish on his very first cast then settled down and was then soon into a nice steady rhythm catching small carp regularly using pellet hook baits. Daniel Elliott and Jack Weatherley put the pressure on early with good runs of fish until the wind dropped and the fish moved. Travis was the only angler who could maintain a steady catch rate for the full three hours to amass a very respectable total of 28lb of carp and one Bream a personal best specimen weighing 2lb 7oz to force club champion Daniel Elliott into second place. Reigning club champion Daniel Elliott thought his luck was in when he drew peg 30 scene of his record-breaking catch last week. He started well catching three big carp tight to the lilies in the margin all on pole fished meat over a pellet feed once this swim died a switch to the waggler with floating baits fooled two more to finish with five for 22lb 8oz and good points in his bid to win the Club championship for the fourth consecutive year.
Last years runner up Charlie fished a similar match from peg 8 to land two big carp and a few small fish fishing pellet at thirteen metres into the corner most of the competition. Jack Denny another new angler this year just missed out on a top three finish fishing peg 26 landing one big carp weighing 5lb 15oz and losing two more big fish which broke him in the lilies.
