Harleston Junior Angling Club attracted an excellent turnout for the second round of the Championship Cup held in the Middle Pit at Weybread. With the Middle pit in hot form since re-opening for the new season on June 1st and some warm settled weather in the run up to the competition, fishing conditions were good for the nineteen entrants and they took full advantage to land a grand total of 240lb 10oz an amazing average of over 12lb per angler.

Jack Weatherley in action on his way to second place.Edward Howman finally clinched his first win in a club competition with a magnificent performance from peg 11 on the Heath House bank to haul in 47lb 8oz of fighting fit Carp to deny Jack Weatherley a hat-trick of wins. Jack and Edward matched each other fish for fish throughout the three-hour match to produce a nail biting finish with Edward clinching the result in the dying minutes with an 8lb 13oz monster. Edward started on the method feeder and found the going tough, landing only one small Carp in the first hour. A change to surface baits presented with a small controller changed things with a steady run of big Carp right up until the final whistle.

Jack Weatherley drew peg 35 and he again started with his favourite method feeder tactic after a bite less first hour the wind changed and moved the fish to his swim and a quick change to surface baits saw him start catching straight away landing eight Carp and losing four other good fish including one in the final seconds to finish agonisingly close with 39lb 1oz.

Four times Club Champion Daniel Elliott filled third place with five Carp weighing 23lb 10oz. Daniel got himself off to a flying start from unfancied peg 32 landing two Carp on the method feeder in the opening minutes, a change to surface baits saw him land a further three fish inside the first hour to open up a big lead on the opposition, then bad luck struck as the wind changed direction and moved the fish further up the lake towards Jack Weatherley.

There was a three-way battle for fourth place with the next three anglers only separated by seven ounces. James Collings topped the best of the rest with 15lb 15 oz of silver fish and small Carp on pole-fished maggot from peg 23 to pip Ian Lange on peg 36 by just two ounces. Ian again used pole tactics with corn as bait to land three Carp and some small fish for 15lb 13oz. Philip Shulver completed the trio weighing 15lb 8oz of mixed silver fish and Bream from peg 26 on pole fished corn.
