Weybread Middle Pit, Round two of the Harleston Junior Angling Club's summer series. Records fell at the Harleston Junior Angling club's second round of the clubs summer series. A big turnout of twenty-one anglers turned out for some of the best fishing conditions of the season. Good cloud cover and a stiff southwest wind stirred the Middle pits vast carp shoals into a feeding frenzy. Gavin Woodward and Jack Weatherley took advantage of the good weather to break the clubs old three hour match record, with massive weight's of carp in a very close fought competition, a whopping total of 417lb 8oz of fish, averaging nearly 20lb per angler were banked setting new standards for the club.
New record holder Gavin Woodward continued the family-winning streak from younger brother Travis, last week's victor with a massive 65lb 11oz haul. Gavin drew peg 18, one peg from where Thomas Sage set the record last year with a fine 57lb 15oz. His record catch consisted of twelve big Mirror Carp including individual specimens approaching 10lbs each; these were all taken on the method feeder with carp pellet hookbaits. Gavin had a flying start landing a big fish on his second cast then kept the fish feeding for the full match duration to steadily amass his huge weight and ease past Jack Weatherley with two fish in the dying minutes. Jack Weatherley must have thought he had this match in the bag storming through the first two hours bagging fish after fish, then disaster the wind dropped and the fish moved to Thomas Sage fishing the adjacent peg, from then on he could only watch as Thomas bagged in the last hour and Gavin Woodward slowly ate into his lead then beat him in the final minutes. Jack's 62 lb 13oz of carp and bream leaving him a mere 3lb short of a fine victory, Jack again caught all his fish on the method feeder with maggot and pellet hookbaits fishing peg 24. Jacks second place now puts him level on points with reigning champion Daniel Elliott.
Thomas Sage netted a fine 36lb 8oz of carp all taken on the method feeder from peg 23 for fourth place and good points, the former record holder put an impressive last hour to come from nowhere after a inspired move led him to steal some of Jacks hookbaits.
Personal bests were landed by fifth placed Edward Howman weighing 32lb 12 his biggest match weight. Philip Shulver another best with 27lb 8oz for sixth place. New angler this year Kaden Spooner landed one of the best mixed bags ever, catching Roach, Skimmer bream up to 2lb and small carp all night on waggler fished maggots for 24lb 5oz. Travis Woodward fresh from his win last week only had one bite, but what a specimen a seasons best of 12lb 13oz.
