The Bottle Pit at Weybread produced a cracking match for the latest of Harleston Junior Angling Clubs summer league competitions. With the lake showing good early season form from the shoals of hungry Tench still packing on weight ready for spawning and a nice overcast sky things looked good for the ten keen anglers.

Edward Howman with his second placed catch of Tench. The youngest competitor in the field eleven-year-old Caden Spooner produced a magnificent performance from peg 39 to bag 19lb 8oz of prime Tench and win his first match. Rapidly improving Caden suffered a slow start netting four small Tench in the first hour before his swim died, leaving the rest of the field to push ahead, Caden stuck to his plan feeding constantly with a small amount of pellets to build his peg hoping the fish would return, his patience paid of in the final half an hour landing eight in as many casts on his soft pellet hookbaits before clinching the win in the dying seconds with a new personal best a whopping 5lb 12oz beauty. The win also pushes him up to fourth place in the league just four points behind the leader.

Edward Howman must have thought he had this match in the bag leading from the start as he bagged small Tench consistently all evening on pole fished pellet presented at eleven metres from end peg on the night peg 43. Edward finished with twenty-three Tench up to two pounds for a 16lb 7oz total and nineteen league points to move him up to third after three rounds.

Jack Weatherley with his catch.Championship hopefuls Jack Weatherley and Rob King fished a peg to peg battle for third place with Jack just nicking the verdict by a mere four ounces again an all Tench catch weighing 11lb 12oz on pole fished corn over groundbait from peg 33.

Rob King kept the pressure on league leader Daniel Elliott beating him into fourth place with 11lb 8oz of Tench on pole-fished corn from peg 32 to gain one point and cement his second place.

Daniel Elliott finished fifth with 9lb 8oz to stay at the top of the league at the halfway stage.
