The Halls Pit at Weybread proved to be a popular venue choice for the fourth round of the Harleston Junior Angling clubs summer series attracting a new attendance record for the lake with sixteen anglers lining the bank. The deep clear water and dense margin cover of the lake again presented new problems and tactics to overcome for the youngsters and for the second week some new names in the frame. The main target species in this lake are the prolific Rudd shoals, which are generally small averaging less than an ounce but make up for it with their vast numbers. With the fish well spread out speed is the name of the game, and the whip is the top tactic for good catches.

Shane Riches included some quality Rudd in his second placed bag.Performance of the season so far came from the top rod on the night Philip Shulver. Philip employed a four-metre whip fished to hand to chalk up his first ever match victory, hammering out well over one hundred small Rudd and amass a very creditable 5lb ¼oz to leave the opposition trailing in his wake. Philip drew well picking out the Oak tree peg and used maggot fished shallow on a sixteen hook to land fish from the off. He kept the fish coming with loose-fed maggots, feeding small amounts at irregular intervals and only when his catch rate slowed to avoid working the fish into a feeding frenzy and attracting Pike into his peg.

With Philip way out in front it was left to Ricky Leggett, Shane Riches and Kaden Spooner to battle it out for second place and it proved to be a close fought contest with only five ounces separating them at the final whistle. Shane Riches on peg 6 finished triumphant from the battle swinging in a bonus Perch in the dying seconds to claim second place and record his highest ever placing with 3lb 8½oz of Rudd including some quality specimens and the bonus Perch caught late on to edge out Kaden Spooner by just a half an ounce. All Shane's fish fell to waggler tactics and double red maggot presented shallow close to the reeds.

Young Kaden Spooner drew next to the winner and fished similar whip tactics to land Rudd and Perch from close to the reed beds just missing out on second place with 3lb 8oz.

Fourth placed Ricky Leggett landed 3lb 3¼oz including some quality Rudd early in the match on a small waggler fished shallow then added some small fish later on to earn good league points with a solid performance.

Things are now hotting up in the league stakes with four results now on the board, the club champion is decided on the best four results from the six match series meaning anglers can drop the two lowest scores. Out in front is last years runner up Jack Weatherley who again returned a good performance to finish fifth and tops the league with 71 points consisting one win (20 Points), a second (19) and two fifths (32). Philip's Shulver's excellent performance and the 20 points for the win has now pushed him up to second place in the league table tying with Ricky Leggett hot on Jack's heals with 66 points. Edward Howman suffered a poor draw on the night and suffered a set back finishing 11th but is still well in contention with 61 points.

Third placed Kaden Spooner with his catch.
