Harleston Junior Angling Club kicked off its new season in the Middle pit with the first match of the Club Championship, a six match series in which the competitions are alternated between the Club, Middle and Dan Turton Lakes at the clubs Weybread complex. With all bar one of last year's Junior National winning squad now moving up to senior level the door has opened for new and younger members to move up into the spotlight.

The competitions are held every Thursday evening drawing at 6pm and fishing 6.30 to 9.30pm throughout the summer and new members are always welcomed you don't even need any tackle as you can borrow some of the clubs to get you going phone Nigel on 01379 853571 for more details.

If this first match is a taster for the rest of the series then it looks to be a cracker with Caden Spooner and Shane Riches battling it out for top spot, only separated by four ounces after three hours of fishing. Twelve year old Caden Spooner finally taking the honours and maximum points with an all carp catch weighing 49lb 2oz. Caden drew peg 11 and produced a solid performance netted eight big carp close in on dog biscuits presented with a candle rig careful loose feeding kept the fish interested.

Travis Woodward started well keeping up with the top two for the first half of the match before his swim died leaving him fishless for the remainder of the competition. Travis alternated between free lined biscuits and method feeder to land another all carp catch of 36lb from peg 19.

Ten-year-old Oliver Elton put in an exceptional performance to land a magnificent 15lb 4oz of quality roach on three metre whip and maggot fished to hand from peg 2 to finish fourth.
