Championship Round One
Harleston Junior Angling Club held its first match of its popular Thursday evening summer series in the prolific Club Lake at Weybread, attracting a turn out of fourteen keen youngsters including three new faces to the club. The weather was ideal for fishing with a warm south wind and light cloud cover. Last seasons Championship runner up fourteen-year-old Harleston regular Jack Weatherley took full advantage of the conditions and a good draw hammering out a match winning 39lb 7oz to take an early lead in the series. His catch consisted of twelve good carp caught on a variety of methods and baits from peg nine on the car park bank
Finishing well behind the front runners on the night was thirteen year old Travis Woodward who completed the top three with his catch of 15lb 6oz, three big Carp from peg seventeen all taken on his favourite method feeder tactic with pellet hook baits presented into open water. Philip Shulver finished fourth from peg twenty-nine after winning a peg-to-peg battle with Edward Howman his weight of 13lb 12oz just enough to beat of the challenge of Edward weighing 13lb 6oz after throwing back a four pound common right at the final whistle. Harry Ramsey produced the top weight from the new faces finishing sixth with a respectable 11lb 8oz mixed catch of mainly silver fish from peg five.
