Harleston Junior Angling club hosted its first match of the year 'The Last Chance Open' one last go before the current season finishes at the end of the month and the club closes its Weybread Complex until June 1st for repair work and rest.

The competitors were greeted with a monotone grey sky, drizzle and a cold North wind blowing down the lake not the ideal fishing conditions and the attendance suffered with only twelve hardy souls braving the elements. Luckily someone must have told the fish last supper for two months as the fish were spread about and most of the anglers recorded good bags to take the mind of the cold.

Two of the areas top anglers Daniel Elliott winner for the last two years and Rob King produced a thrilling peg to peg battle for top spot, with Rob drawing peg 28 and Daniel pulling peg 27. Both anglers caught from the start and were soon into a good rhythm matching each other fish for fish landing small Carp Roach and skimmers on pole-fished pellet at eleven metres, the fish were keep interested by careful feeding, using a small 'Kinder' pot to feed pellet after every fish.

Rob King clinched the win with his last fish of the day a nice Common Carp of three pounds landed in the last minute to weigh 28lb 9oz leaving Daniel trailing by just 1lb 10oz with his 26lb 15oz catch.

Jack Weatherley completed the top three from peg eight in the corner fishing corn and pellet he started well landing three Carp in his first three casts before the fish moved out leaving him fishless until the last ten minutes when he landed a further two big fish to weigh 21lb 14oz.
