Lucks Mill.

The Concrete slab peg at Lucks Mill.Location-Situated midway between Needham and Brockdish. From Harleston Market place turn left and follow the road to the roundabout, then go straight over into needham village and follow the road until you get to the end of the village there is a track and limited parking on the left just before the last house in the village.

Go through the gate and walk down the meadow to the concrete bridge. Cross over the bridge, club fishing runs upstream to the first fence (200m) and also runs downstream to the first fence just past the row of Alders on the far bank (Top picture) which is two marshes (400m). For the downstream pegs once over the bridge head for the next concrete bridge, cross this and then turn left back to the river.

A good quality chub caught on light spinning tackle.Description- This short stretch starts very narrow with a decent flow and and plenty of overhanging Alders, home to some nice chub. Downstream the river widens slightly to about 11m and deepens althrough much of this can be heavily weeded in the summer stopping much of the flow. Anyone wishing to visit this stretch should remember to take their wellies especially on the downstream marshes.

Tactics and pegs- Roving or short evening sessions are best during the summer. Try the narrow top stretch for the chance of Chub the 'concrete slab' opposite the row of Alders at the bottom of the stretch is also home to some good fish, fishing with bread or worm baits may even produce a bonus tench if you are lucky. For roach and dace the first peg downstream at the bottom of the garden where the river widens is worth a try caster and hemp would be my baits of choice. The concrete slab is another peg capable of producing a good bag with a good chance of bonus chub especially when there is a tinge of colour in the water. For anyone wishing to tackle this stretch in the winter chub are probably your best chance of success.
