Weybread Middle Pit

Weybread Middle Pit from the air.Weybread Middle Pit is a shallow lake around three acres in size with 36 permanent pegs. Fishing is available on a day ticket or season permit only these must be bought in advance. There is a good flat path allowing good access even for trollies and barrows, and the pegs are flat and of a comfortable size.

During recent years many of the old trees have been removed to allow more light and wind on to the water and promote the growth of margin cover, the pit now has a healthy stock of reeds and lilies around the edge to provide good fish holding cover and spawning areas.

Gavin Woodward displays a big carp a common catch in the Middle pit.Species : Double figure bags of quality Roach like this provide good sport in the colder months.Carp provide the main target species, the very heavy stocking policy and the large average size attracts plenty of anglers during the summer months. The five hour match record for the pit stands at a huge 175lb, pleasure catches of 100lb are common during the warmer months and bags exceeding 200lb and more are possible to good anglers on the best pegs. There is also a very healthy stock of roach, crucians and skimmers to provide plenty of winter bites with catches of these smaller species providing good sport and bags regularly topping 20lb.

Tactics : With the huge stock levels in this pit all methods account for plenty of fish. The method feeder is the top tactic for the carp with pellet, meat, boilie or the humble maggot on the hook. Early season the floater also accounts for some good catches as does the floating pole when the water is warm. Pole fishing with soft pellet or caster on the hook is a good method for mixed catches with the roach and skimmers loving these small baits. In the winter caster will catch well with all species falling to this bait.

Disabled access : is limited again to the steep sided nature of the lake, but disabled anglers have priority on three permanent pegs, numbers one, three and four next to the car park until October.

Rules : Due to the high stocking levels keepnets are banned from the start of the season until October 1st. After this keepnets may be used but all fish over three pounds must not be retained, there is also a bait limit of one kilo of groundbait and trout pellets and high oil pellets are banned ie Halibut pellets and Salmon pellets, please use all other baits in moderation.
