Needham Mill.

Looking downstream from peg 7.Location-This excellent stretch is situated on the Norfolk bank in the center of Needham village. From Harleston Market place turn left and follow the road to the roundabout, then go straight over into Needham village and take the first turning on the left follow this lane and park on the right 100m before the Mill.

Access to the fishery is over the small bridge and stile on the other side of the road. Turn right for peg 1 which is beside the fence, the bottom of the access is again marked with a barbed wire fence, all the marshes are linked with small bridges.

My wife displays the quality pike on offer not big but plenty of fighting spirit in the summer and good sport on light tackle, and for the eagle eyes the fish was caught not caught at Needham it came from Homersfield but they do live at Needham honest.Description- One of the best stretches on the river with plenty of fish to be caught throughout the year. The fishing stretches over several marshes and covers around 30 pegs. The width averages eleven metres with depths of up to 13ft althrough the average is about 7ft. Being deeper and wider than Lucks Mill there is very little flow in the summer and some of the pegs weed up badly again slowing the flow.

Tactics and pegs- Roach are the main quarry here with double figure bags common in the summer and bags of twenty pounds plus on the cards in the late autumn, early winter when the fish shoal up in the early pegs ready to move into the mill during the coldest weather. During the summer any peg where you can get a clean run will produce roach and small chub, my favorites are 7 to 9 where there is also a chance of a bonus chub, again hemp and caster would be my baits with hemp no 1 if the small chub become a pain. Once cold weather arrives pegs 1 to 4 come good as the fish get ready for winter, peg 4 on the bend is especially good when the river is carring plenty of extra water. For chub try pegs 5 to 9 under the alders. Plenty of small pike with bonus perch and chub should produce a few takes to the roving lure angler.
