Weybread No1 Pit The No1 pit is the oldest lake in the complex, it is also the second largest at about 15 acres in size. The lake has plenty of fishing features with margin reeds and overhanging trees on many of the pegs. There are also massive bottom variations to be found with careful plumbing revealing the sandbars, silt traps and large boulders found on most pegs. These features provide patrol routes for anglers to ambush the bream and carp shoals. The depths in this lake range from just 30cm on top of the bars on the chicken hut bank (bottom of the picture) up to 6m on the river bank (left bank in the picture). The fishing is available on a day ticket or season ticket with 56 flat comfortable pegs to choose from. Two car parks and a good path provide easy access.

Disabled AccessThe pits disabled access is limited to peg 17 which is next to the main car park, and is an excellent Bream and carp peg, and pegs 1, 2 and three in the second car park these are good pegs for small fish especially in the winter months. Species A large head of big carp are one of the main species fished for in recent years. These fish were stocked up to 20 years ago and have steadily grown in weight since, the biggest fish now weigh over 30 lb with plenty of fish over the 20 lb mark making this one of the best carp waters in the area and probably the cheapest at only £7 for two rods for the day. The lake also contains large shoals of quality bream running to six pounds or more, and the club has also stocked thousands of small skimmers in recent years which have grown well and these pound plus fish now provide good fishing with match weights of nearly 100lb possible in the early season when the fish are shoaled tightly. Roach and Perch provide plenty of bites late summer through the winter and twenty pound bags are not uncommon.
The increased use of modern high protein baits over the last ten years or so has accelerated the growth rate of the carp and provided a plentiful supply of food for the large shoals of roach and bream, vastly improving catches for both the pleasure angler and matchmen who target these smaller species. Tactics : The top tactic for the carp is the boilie very often fished at long range over the numerous bars but plenty of fish fall to baits fished in the margins. The bream are again targeted on the gravel bars with groundbait feeder and more recently the method feeder. Worm or red maggots are the top baits for the bream and corn is also effective when the roach shoals prove to be a nuisance with the smaller baits.
