Harleston Junior Angling Club Santa's Special Result 2003.
The first winner of the new trophy was Edward Howman with two good carp for a total of 7lb 4oz. Edward drew peg 11 and opted for the pole fished tight to the bankside vegetation for most of the match with no luck. Then an inspired tactical change to the maggot feeder in the final few minutes produced two bites with his last two casts, with bunches of red maggots fished on a short hooklength to steal the match from long time leader Kieron loane in the dying seconds. Edward's first match win was rewarded with a selection of Christmas goodies and the new Trophy named as "Santa's Special". Kieron Loane finished second from peg 29; Kieron fished the method feeder all match alternating between two swims. Kieron took an early lead with a near six pound carp in the first hour but could only add two more small Roach for a weight of 5lb 15oz. Jack Weatherly finished the frame with 3lb 10oz, Jack drew peg 17 and fished the pole in the margins and at eleven metres with maggot and caster. Mid match with the wind picking up and gusting heavier he changed to the maggot feeder to improve presentation and was rewarded with a nice Common Carp for a comfortable third place over 3lbs in front of the fourth placed Charlie Hodd who managed 7oz of very small Roach caught on the waggler.
