The Waveney Valley. The River Waveney is situated in the lowlands of Rural East Anglia, approximately 20 miles south of Norwich, this small river meanders from West to East through the countryside and forms the County boundary between Norfolk and Suffolk for most of its length. The rivers source can be found at Redgrave Fen a popular tourist area famous for its Great Raft Spider colony, the only one in this country. From Redgrave Fen the river then flows east, winding its way through the market towns of Diss and Bungay before reaching the tidal limit at Ellingham Mill. The tidal river then cuts its way through to Geldeston lock, which is the highest point of navigable water for boat traffic on the river. Canoes may be available to hire if you want to explore further inland. From here the tidal river widens and deepens passing through Beccles, on its way to the busy holiday resort of Yarmouth where it joins the mighty River Yare at Breydon Water and finally runs into the sea at Gorleston Harbour.
